Unless we challenge ourselves regularly towards better and better eating habits as early in life as possible we risk becoming unable to function at any level. When sleep becomes difficult to acquire, when work is a constant stress routine, when family life finds us at the gate of antagonism, it becomes so much more difficult to turn the corner towards health and wellbeing, and feeling like work is fun.
In his book Cured, Dr. Jeff Rediger says:
What is nutrition density? According to Fuhrman (and in fact the World Health organization), nutritionally dense foods are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals (part of a plant’s immune system which helps protect the plant from viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Phytochemicals can offer humans the same protection). Also nutritionally dense foods are low in calories, sugar and refined carbs, salt, starches, and unhealthy fats.
Included are fruits and vegetables, fish, whole grains, nuts, legumes (lentils, peas, peanuts etc.), seeds and small amounts of chemical-free fish and lean meats.
Dr. Fuhram created ANDI, the Aggregate Nutritional Density Index, which can be found online.
Tips
- Go to the ANDI index online and start today to take responsibility for your food intake.
- While cutting out sugar completely is almost impossible for most of us, try to not watch the ads on tv or your iPhone etc. that have to do with food.
- Force yourself to take a 20 minute walk each day.
- Get back to some form of regular exercise.
- Come to the Get Back Health Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic this week and get your spine realigned so your nervous system supports your healthy decisions.
